Hello and welcome to the Inside Look. This page of our website is devoted to giving you a closer look into the happenings and happenstance of our small family winery. Assistant Winemaker and Tasting Room Manager, Clay, will be writing from time to time to update you on events, occurrences, and other interesting facts, so keep coming back to get the Inside Look.
6/12/08 For those of you who have been patiently (or impatiently as may be the case) awaiting our annual An Afternoon at Old Creek Ranch event I am happy to inform you that we have not neglected our duties and have finally selected a date. This raucous good time will be take place Saturday July 19th out at the ranch. Our fine wines and Organic foods by Old Creek Ranch, a Blanchard family endeavor (our cousins), including grass fed beef, avocados, oranges and much more, will be featured for this event. Attendance will be limited to 50 people or so, so those of you who don't want to miss out should give us a call. Tickets must be purchased in advance as this is a private party. More details are on the way. Music and maybe even a little dancing if you are daring enough will round out the afternoon/evening. Hope to see you there.
5/23/08 Our Club Shipment Pick-Up party on May 10th was quite the success. Stuart and friends thoroughly enjoyed playing bluegrass style music on the outside patio of the tasting room. They did not quit until long after the last revelers had left. Our new release wines received an excellent reception and all in all it was a nice little party. For those Club Members who could not make it, don't worry, you will still be able to taste our new wines, which will be hiding in the tasting room awaiting your visit. Two of the new release wines, the 2003 Pinot Noir, and the 2003 Zinfandel will be included in your club shipments. With Memorial Day just starting things are busy as every in the crazy month of May. Last weekend the beautiful warm weather and the Paso Robles Wine Festival brought many people out to enjoying fine wines and activities at the beach. Summer seems to be creeping up on us again, but don't worry, there will be many more fun adventures ahead. Keep your ears open as we will most likely be having a summer kick-off party sometime in July.
5/2/08. We have three brand new wines that we are very excited about. We recently bottled and secured label approval for a 2003 Pinot, 2003 Zinfandel, and 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon. All of these wines will be release on May 10th to our club members at their club shipment pick-up party here at the tasting room and to the general public soon thereafter. Both the winemaker and his wife have already been thoroughly enjoying the rather potent 2003 Zinfandel at home. Both the Pinot and Zin will be presented under our Cayucos Cellars label, while the Cab will be only the second wine as of yet to merit my dad’s (Stuart, the winemaker) approval for his much coveted Devils Gate label. (Be ware, I am prone to tangents) Way back in 2005, which was the first full crush I worked, we were lucky enough to get a small amount of some great dry farmed head pruned cab from a vineyard way out in the Adelaide, West Side Paso Robles. We had enough to make one full barrel of wine and my father put me in charge. It was to be my wine. I was to do all the work on it through crush and take care of it till it was ready to bottle under a label of my design. In the end things did not quite work out that way, at least as far as creating a label of my own. What happened was this; on my 25th birthday (gosh I am getting old huhhh ha ha) my father bottled one bottle of my 2005 Cab to give to me as a birthday present. He liked it so much that he and my mom (Laura) decided that it would be a perfect wine to put under our premium label, the Devils Gate. She signed the bottle and wrote “Blue Devil” on it, because, of course, my favorite color is blue and devil for the Devils Gate. To make a long story short, I decided that I wanted change the winemaker’s favorite label to reflect the “Blue Devil” name, causing quite a stir, creating some sustained pouting and other expressions of displeasure. In the end things worked out quite nicely if I do say so myself. The winemaker’s favorite label did not entirely escape a little altering, but it still remains relatively true to form for those of you who know and love it. If you want to see the outcome you will just have to drop by some time and check it out. I promise you, neither the wine nor the label will disappoint. Well, that is it for now as I have run out of time. Come back to the Inside Look from time to time as I will update this page with more information frequently to let you know what we are up to, elaborate on any plans for any of our events that may be of special interest, and generally just to give you a good Inside Look into who we are and our great wines.
